St George’s musical to be staged at St Peter’s Parish
St Peter’s Parish in Surry Hills will host the musical Courage: The Legend of St George and the Dragon from 8 to 11 October. The production is a collaboration between the parish and Bright Stars Production Company.
Writer and director Brigid Viera created the musical to explore the life of St George as a martyr and his relevance to modern Christians. The story depicts how St George stood for the truth during the third and fourth centuries as divisions grew between Christians and the Roman Empire, an act that eventually led to his death. Viera stated that the play intends to show that acting with integrity is important during times of conflict and division.
Emelina Phillips plays the lead role of Sabra. Phillips said that the saint's faith inspired her to trust in God while preparing for the character.
