St. Joseph as a Model for Protecting Life

Archbishop Robert G. Casey suggests using St. Joseph as a model for protecting human dignity during the upcoming Respect Life Month in October.

In an article for The Catholic Telegraph, Archbishop Casey describes Joseph as a defender of dignity who supported Mary when others might have judged her. He notes that Joseph demonstrated faith through trust in God and acted as a protector of the vulnerable by embracing his role as husband and father.

The Archbishop encourages the Church to proclaim the sacredness of life from conception to natural death to counter modern practices. He specifically identifies the use of abortion pills and medical assistance in dying as concerns that dehumanize pregnancy and ignore the worth of those who suffer. He states that believers must educate others about these issues to prevent faith from becoming a purely private experience.
