St. Monica community keeps young student’s legacy of curiosity alive

St. Monica Catholic School in Dallas has opened a renovated STEAM lab to honor the memory of Evie Carter, a student who died at age six. The classroom features a mural identifying the space as the St. Monica STEAM Lab in Memory of Evie Carter.

The school maintains Carter's legacy through the new lab, a dedicated scholarship, and an annual school-wide celebration. Carter was known for her interest in science, music, dance, and various sports. She frequently dressed in scientist costumes and expressed a desire to become a science teacher.
