St. Vincent de Paul Day with Mass, soup, bread

Bishop Frank J. Caggiano celebrated Mass at the St. Vincent’s Medical Center chapel to honor the feast of St. Vincent de Paul. The event brought together doctors, nurses, staff, and families to recognize the saint who founded the Daughters of Charity, the religious order that established the hospital nearly 125 years ago.

During his homily, Bishop Caggiano said St. Vincent de Paul taught that service involves more than just giving, but rather accompanying those in need so they do not feel alone during illness or loss of control. The bishop shared a personal story about being bedridden with rheumatic fever as a child, noting that a parish deacon visited him weekly to play games. He said this act of accompaniment helped awaken his religious vocation.
