Statement from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, regarding Respect Life Month

Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, issued a statement from the Archdiocese of San Antonio regarding the upcoming Respect Life Month in October. The Archbishop noted that the Church observes this month to recognize the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.

Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak will celebrate a Respect Life Mass on Sunday, Oct. 4, at St. Mary Magdalen Church. The archdiocese will also hold a Respect Life Month novena from Thursday, Oct. 22, to Friday, Oct. 30. This novena includes daily prayer intentions, reflections, suggested actions, and information to assist participants in praying for the protection of human life.

The Archbishop highlighted that Catholic Charities and various parish ministries support expectant mothers with material and spiritual resources. He also noted that the Church advocates for laws and policies that protect vulnerable people. In his statement, García-Siller cited Pope Leo XIV, who said a just society cannot be built if the weakest members, such as children in the womb or the elderly, are discarded.
