“Stop dependency,” Catholic Bishop Urges Young People in Kenya to Work Hard for Their Future

Bishop Mark Kadima Wamukoya of the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma urged students at Kibabii Boys National School to pursue academic success to achieve self-reliance. During a prayer day and Confirmation Mass on September 22, the bishop told 835 candidates that working hard in school prepares them for responsible leadership and prevents them from becoming a burden to their parents or relatives.

Bishop Kadima told the students that discipline and commitment are necessary to build a good future. He warned against cheating on exams, stating that dishonesty is a sign of failure and that students must be truthful to prove they are hardworking.

The bishop also linked tribalism to failure, suggesting that academic failure leads to parasitism and social disturbance. He said that passing exams serves as preparation for the commitment required in adulthood.
