The outgoing center-right government in Sweden has lost its election, though the opposition has not secured a clear victory. The four-party coalition that supported Ulf Kristersson's administration for four years, including the Moderates, Sweden Democrats, Christian Democrats, and Liberals, finished with 173 seats. This coalition was known for implementing restrictive policies regarding asylum seekers and immigrant naturalization.

The four opposition parties hold 176 seats, which is one more than the absolute majority of 175. While the Social Democrats remain the largest party with 99 seats, down from 106, it remains uncertain if the opposition can agree on a government program or approve Magdalena Andersson, the Social Democratic leader, as the new prime minister.
