Associations in the province of Lucca reach more than 108,000 people annually, according to a study titled Identità in movimento. The research, conducted by the University of Pisa and Simurg ricerche, shows that these organizations serve a wide range of people, including families, the elderly, students, women, and individuals with disabilities or economic difficulties.

The study, led by Andrea Salvini, a professor of general sociology at the University of Pisa, describes a diverse sector. Approximately 44.1% of organizations in Lucca work primarily in culture, sports, and recreation, while 20.1% operate in healthcare and 13.4% in social assistance and civil protection. Other areas of activity include education, research, economic development, and social cohesion.

The primary recipients of these services are young people at 33.9%, families at 28.8%, and the elderly at 21.1%. Additionally, 34.2% of organizations serve the general community. Regarding volunteerism, 27.2% of organizations reported an increase in volunteers, 27.2% reported a decrease, and 45.5% saw no change.
