Pastoral da Ecologia Integral promotes ecological awareness at DNJ 2026

Volunteers from the Integral Ecology Pastoral of the Archdiocese of Curitiba worked to promote environmental awareness and manage waste during the 2026 National Youth Day (DNJ). The team of environmental agents monitored waste disposal throughout the event program and spoke with youth groups, religious figures, and staff at various stalls.

The Archdiocese of Curitiba reported that while the Integral Ecology Pastoral is a new ministry for many faithful, young people were highly receptive to discussions regarding the theology of care and the encyclical Laudato Si’. This engagement may help establish new parish centers for the ministry.

Despite the large crowd, participants helped maintain cleanliness by using designated sorting stations and trash bins. The pastoral coordination noted that while separating recyclable and organic materials remains a complex structural challenge for large events, the experience showed that participant responsibility is key to managing waste.
