Thai Catholic leaders urge youth to be peacemakers in age of AI

Catholic leaders in Thailand called on young people to act as peacemakers, serve marginalized groups, and protect human dignity as artificial intelligence grows in influence. These remarks were made during National Youth Day celebrations on Sept. 19, which included gatherings at parishes, diocesan youth centers, and Catholic schools across the country.

Father Paul Eakarat Homprathum, secretary-general of the Catholic Education Council of Thailand, said the day's theme of participation, development, and peace reflects Catholic social teachings on solidarity and human dignity. The council oversees approximately 400 schools, colleges, and universities in Thailand. To mark the occasion, dioceses and schools organized sports competitions, community service, award ceremonies, and Eucharistic celebrations to foster fellowship among the youth.

In a pastoral message, Archbishop Anthony Veeradet Chaiseri, vice president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Thailand, reminded young people that they are active agents of faith. Thailand established National Youth Day in 1985 to align with the United Nations’ International Youth Year, using the day to promote moral formation and life skills.
