ICE arrests reached record levels during the summer of 2026, according to data from the Department of Homeland Security. The agency arrested 44,000 people in June, 50,208 in July, and 50,925 in August.

The report notes several fatal incidents involving ICE agents, including two shootings in July in Houston and Biddeford, Maine. In August, an agent shot a Venezuelan delivery driver in Austin, who remains in a detention center with a bullet in his back.
