The Gospel of the day: 21st September

The feast of Saint Matthew, apostle and evangelist, features readings from Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13, Psalm 18:2-5, and Matthew 9:9-13.

The Gospel passage describes Jesus calling Matthew, a tax collector, to follow him. While dining with various tax collectors and sinners, Jesus responds to criticisms from the Pharisees by explaining that he came to call sinners rather than the righteous, noting that those who are sick need a physician more than those who are well.
