The Heaven opened, the Bishop’s Mission, and the Grace of being a little flock

Anthony James Corcoran, SJ, was ordained a bishop on September 29 at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. Corcoran has served as the apostolic administrator of Kyrgyzstan since 2017 and will continue his service to the country's small Catholic community in this new role.

During the ordination, Cardinal Giorgio Marengo delivered the homily and encouraged Corcoran to focus on the promises of Christ while managing the practical duties of shepherding the local community. Cardinal Marengo noted that while the vast sky is a central element of ancestral spirituality in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia, Christ provides a definitive access to God.
