The humble way

Father Robert Jager explains that humility involves recognizing one's own weaknesses and the need for mercy. Writing for The Catholic Times, Jager describes the poor in spirit as those who lack self-sufficiency and instead rely on God much like children rely on their parents for comfort and help.

Jager uses the example of Jesus to show that true glory comes from emptying oneself and acting as a servant rather than seeking greatness or independence. He notes that while humans often desire to be important or free from instruction, biblical humility is not about small-mindedness or underestimating oneself, but rather begins with honest self-knowledge.
