The Pope calls the faithful to 'work' toward holiness – VIDEO

Pope Leo XIV told pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday that people can pursue holiness through their daily work and efforts to improve society. During his catechesis on the Second Vatican Council, the Pope addressed whether humans can progress and exercise freedom without God.

Drawing on the pastoral constitution Gaudium et Spes, Leo XIV said that believers do not need to leave the world or their responsibilities to encounter God. He noted that some assume scientific and technological advances make belief in God obsolete, but he stated that human achievements reflect God's greatness.

The Pope encouraged the faithful to carry out daily activities with charity to help achieve personal sanctification. He said people can serve God's kingdom by pursuing the common good, caring for those in need, and defending human dignity.
