The power of determination and community support

Tyriq Springer, a 19-year-old former student of Fatima College, has become the first Caribbean mountain biker to represent the region in downhill at the UCI Mountain Bike World.

Springer began mountain biking in 2021 after riding bikes in Paramin. During a trip to Chaguaramas, his rear axle snapped on a rental bike. The owner of the bike rental company, bikehub.tt, offered Springer the use of a bike free of charge after observing his riding ability. The owner noted that Springer showed talent by keeping pace during trail tours despite his small stature. Springer credited his success to his determination and the support of the riding community.
