Cardinal Robert Bellarmine, a Jesuit theologian, met with scientist Galileo Galilei on the evening of February 26, 1616. At the time of the meeting, Bellarmine was 73 years old and served as a respected theologian who had worked with various popes and Church councils. Galileo was 52 years old.
