The Support They Earned: Serving Veterans and Their Families

Catholic Charities of South Jersey will present the Saint John Neumann Award to Bishop Joseph L. Coffey at its upcoming annual dinner. Bishop Coffey, an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, is a retired Navy chaplain who served for 28 years. He continues to provide sacramental support and pastoral care to veterans throughout the country.

The annual dinner raises funds to help veterans and other clients with expenses that grant-funded programs do not cover. One such program is the Supportive Services for Veteran Families, which helps veterans and their families secure or maintain housing. According to regional program coordinator Susan Stevens, the program provides rental and utility assistance, helps families navigate the VA system, and connects them with employment resources and community support to help them become self-sufficient.
