The Vineyard of Catholic Education

Fr. Enrique Hernandez wrote that Catholic high schools function like vineyards where families, teachers, coaches, counselors, administrators, and parish communities work together to cultivate the gifts of students.

Writing for the Catholic Herald, Hernandez stated that Catholic education should go beyond teaching academic information, earning credits, or preparing students for careers and college. He suggested that the deeper purpose of these schools is to help young people recognize their lives as gifts from God intended to bear fruit.

Hernandez proposed that those in Catholic education should examine whether they provide students with opportunities to encounter Christ, create classrooms where faith questions are welcomed, and challenge students to pursue truth.
