They Won’t Let Bishop Schneider Offer the Latin Mass in St. Peter’s

The Vatican Secretariat of State has denied Bishop Athanasius Schneider permission to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica for this year's Ad Petri Sedem pilgrimage. Organizers of the annual event stated that the refusal applies at least for this year.

Instead of celebrating at the Vatican's principal basilica, Bishop Schneider will celebrate the mass at the high altar of the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major. This marks a change from the 2025 pilgrimage, when Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke celebrated the mass at the Altar of the Chair in St. Peter’s Basilica.
