Through the eyes of a priest

A priest at the Cathedral of St. Paul shared his observations of the congregation during Mass in a column for The Catholic Spirit. Writing from the perspective of the elevated sanctuary and the high pulpit, he described seeing people from various ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds gathered as one community.

The priest noted the diverse experiences of those in the cathedral, including families with young children, elderly individuals, and people praying in silence. He observed congregants reading bulletins, using cell phones, or walking through the space. During the distribution of Holy Communion, he described witnessing a wide range of emotions and physical realities, such as joy, worry, and tears, as well as hands marked by labor or age.
