Two new lectors instituted at the Seminary’s Opening Mass

Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya of the Archdiocese of Bamenda, Cameroon, instituted two seminarians into the ministry of lector during the opening Mass at the Seminary of St John Vianney and the Uganda Martyrs. The liturgy took place on Friday, September 11, at the Mt St Benedict chapel.

The Mass marked the start of the academic year for 23 seminarians training for the priesthood for various dioceses in the region. The gathering included faculty, staff, spiritual directors, formators, diocesan seminarians, lay people, religious, and their families.

Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon concelebrated the Mass and noted that the event reflected the fruits of synodality. He pointed to his relationship with Archbishop Nkea Fuanya, which began during the 2023 Synod on Synodality in Rome, as well as the presence of priests and seminarians from Cameroon. Rector Fr Jason Boatswain added that the seminarians participate in a mode of formation that includes pastoral assignments in parishes and homes.
