Bishop Eugène-Marie-Joseph Allys (1852–1936) described the intense anxiety felt by Christians during periods of constant death threats.

According to the Archdiocese of Huê, Allys noted that these continuous threats created a sense of terror among the faithful. He stated that the ongoing uncertainty about the future was a primary cause of low morale within the community.
