Una historia para recordar

A recent work by Jesús Ortiz López details the massive looting of Spanish historical and artistic heritage by Napoleon's troops starting in 1808. The author describes this period as a major theft of Spanish assets that contributed to the downfall of Napoleon.

According to the prologue, the arrival of French troops resulted in the destruction and theft of many treasures rather than the promised reforms. The author notes that nearly 1000 paintings were taken from Seville and the tomb of El Cid was desecrated in Burgos.
