Ursula von der Leyen proposes ban on social media for under-13s

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed new rules on September 16 to restrict children's access to digital platforms. The proposals, part of the EU Kids Act, include a ban on social media use for children under 13 and a prohibition on personal accounts for those under 15.

The restrictions would apply to large social media platforms as well as online gaming sectors and artificial intelligence chatbots. Von der Leyen stated that these measures are intended to return control of the situation to parents.
