US bishops urge Trump administration to end mass deportations of Haitians

Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, wrote a letter to President Donald Trump on Sept. 8, 2026, asking the administration to stop mass deportations to Haiti.

Coakley, who serves as the archbishop of Oklahoma City, requested that the administration cease deporting large numbers of people to the Caribbean nation to avoid endangering innocent lives. This request follows the termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haiti, which became effective on July 27.
