US State Department condemns attack on Catholic Relief Services convoy in Ethiopia (@USForeignAssist)

The U.S. State Department denounced a drone strike on a Catholic Relief Services convoy traveling to the Tigray region of Ethiopia. The Under Secretary for Foreign Assistance, Humanitarian Affairs, and Religious Freedom issued the statement calling for the protection of humanitarian workers and civilian populations.

The attack targeted a convoy carrying lifesaving humanitarian assistance to people in Tigray. While the strike occurred during renewed fighting between the Ethiopian government and Tigray separatists, the State Department did not identify who carried out the attack. The department also called for the unimpeded delivery of aid to those in need.
