Vatican releases itinerary for pope's November trip to South America

The Vatican has released the schedule for Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic journey to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru from Nov. 6 to 17. According to the Holy See Press Office, the pope will meet with Catholic communities, workers, interfaith leaders, and government authorities during the trip.

The pope will arrive at Carrasco/General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport in Uruguay at 4:30 p.m. local time on Nov. 6. He will travel to the capital, Montevideo, where he is scheduled to attend a welcome ceremony at Plaza Independencia that evening. Following the ceremony, he will meet with the diplomatic corps and authorities before visiting Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi at the Edificio José Artigas. On the evening of Nov. 6, the pope will celebrate vespers with priests and religious at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Sts. Philip and James.

On Nov. 7, the pope will travel to Paysandú to celebrate Mass at Parque París Londres at 10 a.m. before returning to Montevideo. This visit marks the first time a pope has traveled to Uruguay since St. John Paul II visited in 1988. The Vatican has also selected a specific motto for each country the pope visits during this November trip.
