Pope Leo XIV holds interfaith meeting at Robert Schuman Congress Center in Metz

Pope Leo XIV met with representatives of various religious traditions at the Robert Schuman Congress Center in Metz on September 28, 2026. During the interfaith meeting, the Pope spoke about the responsibility of religious men and women to build peace and friendship across borders.

The Pope referenced Robert Schuman, a founder of the European Union, as an example of using faith to turn divisions into bridges. He noted that dialogue allows people to express their identities while opening themselves to others. Citing the encyclical Fratelli tutti by Pope Francis, the Pope stated that the goal of interreligious dialogue is to establish friendship and peace rather than merely practicing diplomacy or tolerance.
