Nepal Nazareth Society brings clean water to Koshidekha

The Nepal Nazareth Society completed a water project in Koshidekha that provides clean water to more than 680 families. The project, which finished in December 2020, uses 4.5 km of new piping to bring potable water from the Sunkoshi River to the village located 300 meters above the river.

Sister Aisha Kavalakattu, the former project director, noted that the system delivers water to taps at the doorsteps of local residents. Before the project, women spent nearly three hours walking to the river, often starting at 3 a.m. to collect water for cooking and daily use.

The availability of clean water has improved health and hygiene for the community. Sister Kavalakattu reported that children are less affected by waterborne diseases and attend school more regularly. Additionally, families have better diets and more time to care for their children because they no longer need to fetch water from the river.
