What are the seven options for Scotland’s dioceses?

Scottish bishops presented seven options on September 20 to restructure the country's eight Latin Catholic dioceses. This proposal follows a consultation process that began in March after the Vatican requested the bishops explore whether the current diocesan structure still meets the needs of the Church.

The bishops stated that the proposed changes are intended to improve Gospel proclamation, support clergy, religious, and lay people, and strengthen parishes and communities for evangelization. The options go beyond administrative adjustments or resource sharing to address the varying geographical sizes and Catholic populations across the existing dioceses. One of the seven possibilities involves maintaining the current structures as a baseline for comparison.
