World Day Against the Death Penalty

Catholics for Abolition in NC will hold a prayer service and peaceful protest in Raleigh on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The event, marking the World Day Against the Death Penalty, is scheduled to take place outside Central Prison from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Participants will gather to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet for the souls of men executed at Central Prison between 1984 and 2006. During the service, organizers will read 43 names. The Diocese of Raleigh noted that because the annual observance falls on a Saturday this year, the protest time and focus have changed.

Attendees can bring homemade signs or use those provided by the group. Parking is available at Dix Park, with access via Hunt Drive, or along the streets in the Boylan Heights neighborhood.
