Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana challenges West African youth

Archbishop Julien Kaboré, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, urged young Catholics from West Africa to reject fear and embrace their responsibility to transform their countries and the Church. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the first West African Youth Day in Accra on Tuesday, September 8, the Archbishop told participants they should not view themselves as victims of societal challenges or as a generation waiting for future opportunities.

Archbishop Kaboré acknowledged that many young people face uncertainty, violence, insecurity, and anxiety regarding the future. He stated that these realities should not define their place in society. He noted that the Church views young people as the today of God and requires their energy, talents, and hope in the present rather than just in the future. He encouraged them to build friendships based on faith and to reject the idea that they are a lost or sacrificed generation.
