ZAMBIA: PMS Diocesan Directors Tasked to Foster Strong Missionary Spirit

Fr. Anthony Chantry, MHM, urged Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) diocesan directors to develop a strong missionary spirit to better promote the work of the Catholic Church. He made these remarks during a course held at the Hwange Marian Shrine Centre in the Diocese of Hwange, Zimbabwe, for directors from Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

During his presentation on the role of a diocesan director, Fr. Chantry stated that the position requires more than administrative ability. He said directors need a grasp of mission theology based on current papal documents, along with skills in fundraising, organization, and communication.

Fr. Chantry, who serves as the Missio England and Wales National Director, explained that directors must help the faithful understand the needs of missionary churches to encourage prayer and financial support. He identified several key responsibilities, such as promoting World Mission Day-Month and its annual collection, encouraging parishes to support the formation of future priests and religious, and helping primary schools participate in Holy Childhood activities.
