ZAMBIA: Zomba Diocese welcomes the first greenhouse

Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima blessed the first greenhouse at Namitembo Farms in Zomba on Friday, September 25. The project, handed over by Noble Agricultural Technologies, is part of a larger effort to implement the Zomba Diocese Strategic Plan to create a self-supporting Church through agricultural business.

The greenhouse project cost nearly 10 million Malawi Kwacha, funded by local resources and a $4,000 donation from Living Waters International. Bishop Chaima noted that the greenhouse will support farming efforts on the 78-hectare Namitembo farmland and help create jobs to reduce poverty in the local area.

The Bishop requested that residents care for and secure the facility and asked other donors to support the diocese as it begins large-scale commercial farming to use idle land at Namitembo Farms. Claver Chisanga, the manager for Noble Agricultural Technologies, pledged continued support for the diocese's agricultural goals.
