The Catholic Church observes the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Sorrows on September 15.

The devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows grew widely, particularly in Mediterranean countries, starting in the late 11th century. It was introduced into the Roman liturgical calendar in 1814 and fixed to September 15, the day after the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
