Pope Leo XIV encouraged the faithful to transform harm into life during a Mass at Borgo Laudato Si’s Madonnina Garden on September 1. The Mass celebrated the 11th World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, marking the start of the five week Season of Creation.

The Pope noted that tools used for destruction can be redirected toward caring for the poor, feeding the hungry, and protecting creation. He referenced this year's theme, which calls for turning swords into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks.

During his homily, the Pope said that contemplating the beauty and power of the natural world helps people appreciate the Creator. He explained that observing birds and lilies reveals God's love for humans, as the Lord provides for plants and animals.
