Győri Egyházmegye presents the Szany forest

In brief

The Diocese of Győr has highlighted the Szany forest as a significant natural treasure within its territory. Spanning approximately 240 hectares, the forest sits at an elevation of 120 meters above sea level. The area includes the Móricz forest, a continuous oak woodland featuring pedunculate oak, turkey oak, and various species of hornbeam, field elm, and white elm.

The forest has historical ties to the Church, as the bishops of Győr have been aware of the area since the 14th century. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Szany served as a forestry center for the Diocese of Győr. The diocese also noted the presence of the rare red kite among the local bird species.
