Pope Leo XIV accepted the resignation of Bishop Guido Gallese as Bishop of Alessandria. The Pope appointed Luigi Testore, the Bishop of Acqui, to serve as the apostolic administrator for the diocese.

Bishop Gallese is not leaving due to age, as he is 64 years old and the canonical age for retirement is 75. He has led the diocese for 14 years following his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI in October 2012.

In January, Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello led an apostolic visit to the diocese. The diocesan social communications office stated that the visit did not concern the financial management of the diocese.

Bishop Testore, 74, has led the diocese of Acqui since 2018. Before his current role, he worked in Milan and served as the private secretary to Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini from 1980 to 1986.
