Antequera celebra a su patrona con la Misa más antigua de la diócesis

The parish of Antequera will celebrate the feast of its patron saint with a votive Mass on Wednesday, September 16, at 20:00. Parish priest Francisco de Paula Aurioles will preside over the liturgy, which the Diocese of Málaga identifies as the oldest Mass celebrated in the entire diocese.

The celebration follows a series of events beginning Tuesday, September 15. At 23:30, following a procession, devotees will pray to the saint, and candles will be lit in Santiago Square. On the feast day, the church will remain open to the public from 11:00 to 13:30 and from 17:00 until the evening Mass.

The tradition dates back to 1410, when Infante Don Fernando, known as "el de Antequera," reconquered the city and provided the town with its patron saint, coat of arms, and first governor.
