A deanery serves as an intermediate administrative unit between a parish and a diocese. It consists of several neighboring parishes that work together on various matters. While parishes within a deanery maintain their own independence and individual pastors, the grouping allows for local cooperation. Although the term deanery traditionally suggests a group of ten, modern deaneries typically include anywhere from a few to a dozen parishes.
