Cameroon archbishop drafting catechism on peace following abductions of priests (Aid to the Church in Need)

Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya of Bamenda is drafting a catechism on peace to address violence and the abduction of priests in Cameroon. The Archbishop said the document seeks to build a new culture centered on reconciliation, peace, and respect for human life.

The Archbishop noted that the Archdiocese of Bamenda had to temporarily close several parishes and Catholic institutions due to the kidnappings. He observed that the separatists who abducted priests were young people from within the local community. According to Archbishop Fuanya, many of these individuals had Christian parents or identified as Christians themselves, sometimes attending Mass on Sundays before participating in kidnappings.
