Catholic Bishops Call on Ghanaian Government to Audit Senior High School Placement System

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has called on the Ghanaian government to audit the national senior high school placement system to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability. In a statement signed by President Bishop Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, the bishops requested a review of the admission process to address recurring difficulties that cause anxiety for students and parents.

The bishops urged the government to finalize the long-awaited agreement between the state and mission schools, protect the identity of mission schools, and end improper protocol arrangements. They also requested that the government strengthen the appeals process and ensure openness in admissions. While acknowledging government efforts to improve the computerized placement system, the bishops stated that effectiveness must include accountability and timely communication when errors occur.

The conference announced it will immediately implement its own decisions regarding Catholic admissions into its schools. The bishops stated that the system should prioritize merit, choice, and the well-being of the child. Of the 604,567 candidates who qualified for placement this year, 527,932 had been placed at the time results were released.
