The Diocese of Rieti–San Salvatore Maggiore celebrated the 801st anniversary of its cathedral, which was consecrated and anointed with sacred chrism in 1225.

During the Eucharistic celebration, the presiding bishop expressed gratitude to the diocesan community, specifically mentioning the sick and those suffering who could not attend. He noted that while the cathedral has stood for eight centuries as a place of prayer and shared faith, the Church must not view the building merely as a historical monument or a museum.

The bishop described the Church as a living body centered on Christ rather than a mere institution or organization. He stated that the liturgy serves as an invitation for the faithful to act as witnesses to a continuing life rather than archaeologists of the faith.
