Cardinal Oscar Cantoni, the bishop of Como, was admitted to Valduce Hospital in Como on Tuesday afternoon, September 15, for medical tests and analysis following a bout of influenza.

The Diocese of Como announced that the cardinal has suspended all scheduled engagements from Tuesday evening through approximately Wednesday, September 23, to allow him to recover. Cantoni expressed gratitude to the doctors and the Suore Infermiere dell’Addolorata for their care. He noted that this brief break would allow him to return to his duties soon.

The 76 year old cardinal has served as the bishop of Como since 2016 and previously served as the bishop of Crema from 2005 to 2016. Pope Francis named him a cardinal during the 2022 consistory.
