Slovenian Foreign Minister Tone Kajzer met with Vatican officials on September 11 to discuss various bilateral topics. During the visit to the Secretariat of State, Kajzer held meetings with Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

Kajzer extended an open invitation for Pope Francis to visit Slovenia. The minister noted that the invitation has been standing for some time, following hopes that the Pope might have attended the Forum for Dialogue and Peace in Koper in 2023.

The meetings occur as the Vatican prepares for Cardinal Matteo Zuppi to undertake a mission to Moscow. This follows a previous trip to Russia by Archbishop Gallagher and takes place amid intensified Russian attacks against Ukraine and a 3 day truce intended to facilitate talks between Putin and United States envoys.
