Workers will begin drilling and injecting cement grout into the ground at the Sagrario church this Monday to stabilize the building's foundation. This work is a new phase of a project started in 2016 after a large crack appeared in the structure.

The Diocese of Málaga stated that the project aims to improve the soil's mechanical properties, increase its load-bearing capacity, and prevent the ground from shifting and damaging the monument. The process involves approximately 150 operations using small diameter drill holes to insert steel tubes with valves. Controlled cement grout will then be injected at various depths to consolidate the ground.

The drilling may reach depths of nearly 19 meters and will use different angles to meet structural needs and subsoil conditions. The Diocese noted that archaeological remains located under and around the church have been a primary factor influencing how the work is carried out.
