Father Massimo Miraglio reopens parish school in Haiti

Father Massimo Miraglio has reopened the parish school of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Pourcine-Pic Makaya, Haiti. The Camillian missionary and parish priest opened the school following several days of preparation to align with the academic calendar from the Ministry of Education.

While students attended in large numbers and all teachers are present, Father Miraglio told Agenzia Fides that the classroom building remains in a precarious condition despite recent maintenance and reinforcement work. He noted that many other schools across Haiti, particularly in Port-au-Prince, have postponed their openings due to violence, insecurity, and a disorganized education system.

The reopening comes as drought and lost harvests have worsened living conditions for local families. Father Miraglio stated that the school is fundamental to building a better future for the community and expressed a commitment to remaining close to students and their families.
