Researchers have identified numerous French ancestors on both the paternal and maternal sides of Pope Leo XIV.

The genealogical findings follow the May 8, 2025, election of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost to the papacy. His French-sounding name drew interest from researchers, who traced his family roots back to France. This connection was further highlighted by his visit to Monaco on March 28.
