Musician and nature writer Jonathan Meiburg has released a new album with his band Shearwater titled The New World. The project took more than four years to record at studios in Brooklyn, Berlin, and Texas.

The album features various musical styles and guest contributors, including spoken word from Laurie Anderson, woodwind player Doug Wieselman, and the Malian percussion trio Ngoni ba. These recordings introduce new sounds to Meiburg's previous work, such as saxophone solos and jazz influenced grooves.

Meiburg, who also writes about ornithology and nature, recorded the album while maintaining his work as a researcher. He recently traveled to Oslo to attend the SCAR Open Science Conference and is currently researching a new book.
